What Is Myopia Management?

Myopia (nearsightedness) is a common vision condition that causes images up close to appear clearly, but images at a distance appear blurry. This condition can progress over time, meaning a patient’s vision will slowly get worse as they get older.

If myopia progress to high myopia (-6.00D+ prescription), it can put a person at risk for developing other sight-threatening conditions, such as retinal detachment, cataracts, and glaucoma

Myopia management is a treatment designed to slow the progression of myopia, mainly in kids and young adults. The goal of myopia management is to prevent patients from developing high myopia and preserve their vision for years to come.

MiSight 1 Day Contact Lenses

MiSight 1 Day contact lenses are specifically designed to help slow the progression of myopia in children.

When your child is wearing these contact lenses, their distance vision is corrected (so they can see the whiteboard or the TV clearly). At the same time, the lens can stop the eye from lengthening, preventing myopia progression.

With single vision lenses (one prescription), a patient’s central vision is corrected, but their peripheral vision may still be out of focus. If peripheral images entering the eye are out of focus (usually projecting past the back of the eye), it can signal to the eye to elongate to compensate for the peripheral vision and allow myopia to progress.

MiSight 1 Day contact lenses have different treatment zones. These zones help defocus peripheral images entering the eye. This defocus can stop signals to the eye to elongate because the peripheral images are being properly focused on the back of the eye, not beyond the back of the eye.

Schedule a consultation with us today to see if MiSight is right for your child.
